Spinal injections

Targeted relief for lower back pain, sciatica and spinal joint inflammation

Spinal injections can provide significant relief for patients experiencing persistent lower back pain or nerve-related leg pain such as sciatica. I offer two specific types of spinal injections, performed under real-time ultrasound guidance to ensure accuracy and safety — without the need for hospital-based imaging.

Caudal Epidural Injection

This involves delivering anti-inflammatory medication into the base of the spinal canal via the sacral hiatus. It’s typically used for:

  • Sciatica (lumbar nerve root irritation)
  • Lumbar disc bulges or prolapses
  • Persistent leg pain related to inflammation

Benefits:

  • Non-surgical pain relief
  • Can reduce nerve irritation
  • Performed in clinic under ultrasound guidance

Facet Joint Injections & Medial Branch Blocks

These injections target the small joints in the spine (facet joints) or the nerves that supply them (medial branches). They are often used in patients with:

  • Localised lower back pain aggravated by extension or rotation
  • Confirmed or suspected facet joint osteoarthritis

Benefits:

  • Helps confirm the source of spinal pain
  • May reduce stiffness and allow more effective rehab
  • Useful for guiding long-term management plans

Best for:
Patients with persistent lower back pain, sciatica, or facet joint arthritis, particularly when pain is limiting daily activity and other treatments have not been effective.
