arthrosamid
Arthrosamid is a new type of treatment injected into a joint to help the pain caused by osteoarthritis, offering an alternative to currently available treatments. It is currently licensed for the knee. It is based on an innovative non-biodegradable hydrogel technology and has been shown to cushion the joint, reduce pain and decrease stiffness to help improve the function of the joint. The result is reduced pain, providing safe and sustained relief in a single injection.
Arthrosamid is an intra-articular polyacrylamide hydrogel injection which intergrates into the synovium of the inner joint capsule creating a cushion-like effect, and as a result is classed as an implant.
Compared with other injections for osteoarthritis of the knee (steroid lasting around 3-6 months, hyaluronic acid 6-12 months), Arthrosamid hydrogel does not degrade, and therefore provides much longer term relief. In clinical trials it has been shown to last for up to 3 years.
