platelet-rich plasma (prp)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a type of injection in which a small amount of blood is taken from the body (the arm vein) before being spun in a centrifuge to separate and draw off the platelet-rich layer of plasma in the blood.

Platelets are well known for their clotting abilities, but they also contain growth-factors that can trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration or healing in the treated area.

The mechanism behind PRP is not full understood. Studies show that the increased concentration of growth factors in PRP may stimulate or speed up the healing process, shortening healing time for injuries and decrease pain.

Dr Marwan uses PRP for joints such as osteoarthritis, but also for soft tissue problems such as tendinopathy, as well as muscle, tendon and ligament tears. He has treated some of the Yorkshire’s most elite athletes with this treatment and is very experienced at knowing in what circumstances it can be of most use.
